Coalville Public Radio is a volunteer powered community station serving North West Leicestershire. We bring together local voices, great music, conversations and stories keeping people connected to the place they call home.
Local people. A shared ambition.
CPR began with a belief that our community deserved a place to share its stories. With support from UK Shared Prosperity Fund funding and our partnership with Coalville CAN Communities and Neighbours that ambition became a reality.
The idea takes shape
A dedicated group, including 14 former Hermitage FM presenters, came together to build a new station with local people at its heart.
Our first broadcast
CPR launched at Coalville’s Christmas Light Switch On. Despite stormy weather, twelve presenters joined broadcasts from the event and studio.
A future for the station
CPR CIC was incorporated as a Community Interest Company to help secure the station’s future and keep community benefit at the centre of its work.
At 10am on launch day, our first song, I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day, marked the start of Coalville Public Radio.
Part of the place we call home.
You’ll find us across the community, meeting local people and helping their stories reach a wider audience. From Picnic in the Park and Coalville Pride to the Charles Booth Centre, the Newmarket and our summer tour, getting out and about is a big part of station life.
Our outside broadcast setup brings music, interviews and live coverage from community spaces and events straight to our listeners.

In our first year, CPR was a finalist in the VAL awards, recognising the work of the volunteers who helped build the station.
Our next chapter.
Coalville Public Radio is coming to DAB Digital Radio. We’ve secured our Ofcom Digital Sound Programme Service licence, allowing us to broadcast on DAB when the local multiplex launches.
It will give listeners another way to hear CPR at home, at work and in the car. As we welcome new listeners, our community mission stays the same.
