Hi, I’m Chris Pitchford. I love a big 70s or 80s hit, but I’m just as happy finding a forgotten single that makes you say, “I haven’t heard this in years.”

My interest in music started with my sister’s record collection. My first attempt at a DJ setup involved a cassette recorder and a Bontempi organ, followed by regular record shop visits that left just enough money for sweets.

Radio and the equipment behind it have interested me ever since. I’ve been involved in community radio since the 90s and still enjoy the mixers and microphones as much as choosing the records.

The 80s were a favourite time for me: saving for a proper sound system, buying albums and sticking with vinyl long after other formats arrived. I still get that same anticipation when there’s a record I’m looking forward to hearing.

I’ve also spent more than 34 years as a presenter and sound engineer with the East Shropshire Talking Newspaper for the Blind. Helping people with visual impairments hear local news and features is work I’m proud to be part of.

Away from the mic, I edit my wife’s novels, enjoy photography and search through record boxes for something I’ve missed.
