Hi, I’m John Rabold, but most people call me J.R. I’m drawn to songs that tell a story, and that’s what I love sharing on Crossroads of Americana.

I grew up in Indiana, listening to country, rock and roots music. Those sounds inspired the show and still guide the records I choose today.

For me, a song can introduce you to a person, a place or an experience you recognise from your own life. I enjoy spending time with that story as well as the music around it.

Away from the mic, I’m usually adding to my record collection or taking my 1996 S&S Buick Victoria hearse out for a drive. It’s certainly one way to get around.

At home, my cats keep life busy. There’s Stevie Ray, Miss Lou Ann Barton, Della, Kalamazoo, Robert Johnson and Frogger, so you can probably spot a few musical influences there too.

I also work in organ and tissue donation, something that means a great deal to me.
